Annual Village Gathering

Wagon Wheel Wagon Wheel

Thanks to a lively group at the gathering last night (6th March)

The new website was launched BUCKLANDDINHAM.ORG

These are the notes from the Comms Team last night..

Massive well done to the Parish Plan Team and a big thank you to the Comms Group who have come up with the structure I am going to run through.

There are four main groups from the parish plan:

Environment; Amenities; Traffic, Travel and Transport; Comms

My name is John and I am coordinator of the Comms group and I look after the new look website.

This is our Wagon Wheel - in the centre is Village Comms

Probably no-one uses all but all of us use some. What we want to do is bring them together. E.g. if you put a notice up on a notice board or post an event on Facebook, tell me and I can add it to the Website – and so on round the wheel.

Website

We are using the original website address bucklanddinham.org which we have had for over 8 years. It was set up for the parish council so not particularly village focused. What the Village asked for was a more village-based website.

So we have transferred this to a template-based site which will ensure it is compliant (as requested by the village):

  • Legally compliant for the parish council requirements
  • Accessibility compliant. This means it is user friendly for those with sight, hearing or cognitive challenges.

What we need now is

  • More ideas for content
  • ‘Champions’ for existing content: one for each group or club or page. Some I have others I don’t. I need a contact for each so I can get more content and keep it up to date. So if that’s you, please send me your details.

Please have a good look at the site and let me know what you think.

WhatsApp

We have set up an umbrella group of Buckland Dinham Community. HERE

Under that we have:

Village Comms

Early Warning Flooding system

Traffic, Travel and Transport

Village Amenities and Events

Village Chat

Other potential groups

  1. Drain clearance.
  2. Salt bins – spreading salt
  3. Collecting Prescriptions

Would you like to join in with any of these?

Can you think of any others?

Can you set up a new group?

More details in your leaflet

Facebook

We have several in the village which are listed on the website. HERE

If you run a village-based Facebook group, let me know and I’ll put a link in the website.

Please feel free to follow any group.

Notice Boards

There are five for public use. Locations are HERE.

Please feel free to use them and check them for activities and events.

Five Alive

Great for village comms - a magazine delivered to your door with lots of village info and adverts for local providers.

Current and back copies are on the website. HERE.

Welcome Card

Another idea we had was to welcome new villagers.

We have developed a card which we shall put through the door of our new neighbours. It features on the Home page of the website but it is suitable for non-techies too.

It is a CARD rather than a pack as it holds information which will be constantly updated so we’ve kept it thin!

Please let me know when someone new has moved in and we will deliver a card.

Business Directory

By popular demand

If you live in or operate from the village, let me know and I will add you to the directory.

It’s not meant as advertising space, it’s just a one line directory, so send me your contact details and I will add you on. See HERE.

Village Information Hub

This is a new concept.

We are looking at setting up:

  • Help using computers and smartphones. (Digital help. Those who have tech but need help using it.)
  • A village hub: for information, guidance and support (for those who don't have tech, don't want it but need help finding out about village resources, buses, doctors’ appointments things like that)

These two could be combined in one place at the same time.

SO, do you know anyone who would benefit from this help?

Are you a person who could provide this help?

=====

Let me have your feedback and we hope you enjoy!

Summary

We need champions to help with content and keep it updated.
We need new ideas for useful content.
We need volunteers who can help fellow villagers
We need to know about people who need our help.
